Aynjel - Get On Your Knees
If you so happened to pass by a small church in North London in late February, you might have noticed a strange and rather peculiar ritual taking place. Hidden in plain sight, a gaggle of creatures of the goth and new wave inclination sat down to mass, to submit themselves to the experience planned out for them by songstress Aynjel, who has let us in on the sermon that took place to celebrate the release of her latest song, ‘Get On Your Knees'.
“The launch was my version off a mass - I came up with this because the song is about people willingly and unwillingly submitting to things in their lives.
The performance was with my friends Cardinal Pansy and Saint Muffy, we read a sermon each about control and when to accept control, then had guests come to the front to receive virginal blood (wine) a second hand necklace (reference to a line in the song, based on the ‘something borrowed’ part of weddings) and a plaster to heal your bruises & cuts. The mass ended with a special performance of ‘Get On Your Knees’. Everyone received an envelope with a prayer and incense instructed to burn at midnight on the release.
Everyone was ordered outside for a family photo & then we danced to new wave & goth tracks in the church tower!”
