If you’ve been paying attention, you might have noticed something going on lately with south east London’s favourite queercore clowns, The Oozes. A support tour coming up fast this November with Electric Six, headline tour dates emerging for January 2027…and on Thursday night, a raucous evening of drag and punk music at The Cavendish Arms in Stockwell celebrated the release of their first new single in over two years, ‘Pump Out Some Kids’. The secret’s out: there’s a debut album on the way, funded by the PRS Foundation’s PPL Momentum Fund. Something big is brewing and if this first single is anything to go by, this is a ride you’re going to want to buckle in for.

‘Pump Out Some Kids’ is a fast-paced outburst of frustration: a 1 minute and 1 second long gut punch of feeling that explores the villainisation of the trans community by transphobic campaigners and the influence this has over the healthcare system. Instead of making generalised statements or sticking to the points of the debate most commonly discussed in the media, songwriter Tombo Gilbert chooses to shine a spotlight on the absurd hypocrisy and sheer hatred that is the reality of terf rhetoric. Lyrics such as "don’t waste your fertile body on not wanting to die, you’re letting all the breeders down now I’m gonna cry” sound like excerpts from The Handmaids Tale, highlighting not only the double standard of this being acceptable to say to a trans person but not to a woman - but also demonstrates the reality that the two struggles are inherently interlinked, and that the removal of bodily autonomy for one group of people will actually result in catastrophic affects on bodily autonomy for everyone.

The track itself is the first the band have released as a two-piece, although the sound is beefier and heavier than ever. All instruments were recorded by Mikey Clarke, with Gilbert also playing guitar. Still classically oozes-y, everything seems to have been turned up a notch including faster tongue twister vocals, with the dizzying intensity of playing really reflecting the experience of existing in a world that just keeps descending into further chaos. ‘Pump Out Some Kids’ was Produced by Daniel Fox of Gilla Band (Sprints, Lambrini Girls, Naked Lungs), mixed by Anthony Chapman (Mclusky, Future of the Left, Collapsed Lung) and mastered by Hippy Baldwin (Metropolis Studios) and made possible by the band receiving support from the PPL Momentum Fund, a great initiative by PRS to support artists breaking through into the next phase of their career. The Oozes have used this to fund their debut album and produce it entirely independently.
