Neuro Placid - MDMA Music Video
Words: Eerie Rose & Neuro Placid
Neuro Placid is back with another music video, this time a trippy, cinematic hellscape for the latest single ‘MDMA.’ We first met this charmingly sinister character back in 2023 with the track ‘Silly in the Mental’ and the accompanying video, which saw artist Ollie Brown introduce this anti-hero alter-ego through references to A Clockwork Orange and Alice in Wonderland. This video continues building upon the Neuro Placid lore, exploring the overdose that led to the character’s creation, and uses intricately layered references from horror films such as The Grudge, Little Shop of Horrors and The Exorcist. Entirely DIY, the video was created over a long period of time, hustling together help from the underground music scene to build makeshift sets, film and pull the project together. It’s a serious accomplishment, and a worthy addition to the track, showing Neuro Placid at his best: dark, nightmarish, catchy-as-fuck and punctuated with a unique brand of cheeky humour that runs through all of his work.
“Welcome to the psychosis cinema that is the MDMA music video. We shot this visualiser for Neuro Placid over roughly over the period of 4 months with large gaps between each shooting. This is because we had FX makeup ideas and personalised props that needed to be discussed and built specifically for the video. Places like The Steamship in Blackwall which has recently burnt down and Dash the Henge record store in Camberwell provided us with locations to shoot at along with Lou Smith the director reimagining the rooms in his own house to look like a dentist office or a psychiatric ward. From nightmare to digital screen, With the help of a lot of talented and skilled artists, we’ve managed to bring to life all the twisted ideas and images the artist Neuro Placid wanted to express in this musical visual project.”
